Charles. A bot?

Charles Abbott

Updated: Dec 21, 2024

Every day brings fresh reports of how AI will soon be coming for all our jobs. That's not the boring jobs like putting the caps on toothpaste tubes, the robots having already cornered the market in those sorts of things. No, it's the interesting jobs that will be disappearing next.

Journalists, broadcasters, photographers and designers are all starting to feel that the computer-generated writing may well be on the wall for their careers. Plumbers and hairdressers should be safe for a while but who knows what the future holds for the rest of us?

By the time I am due to retire, I imagine that CharlesBot will be ready to take over, which will be quite nice for me as I sit back and delegate all the Roll Ups and Single Leg Stretches to my automaton assistant. I'll be able to take as much time off as I like, while my mechanical minion does The Hundred in my absence.

Until technology arrives at that point, however, I take a rather more low-tech approach when I am away. This Sunday there will be no live class so I am making a pre-recorded class available.

If you would like to do the Sunday class, just book as normal. I will make sure you receive the recorded class before the usual start time so you could even press play at exactly 09:30 if you'd like. That way you'd be keeping up the Sunday morning tradition and displaying exactly the sort of human sentiment that our robot overlords will be mercilessly crushing in the future, I expect.

The recording will be available for seven days after Sunday, as usual, so even if you decide to have a lie-in, you can still do the class later and I'll never know - although I expect the machines will be watching...

I look forward to seeing you - or at least you seeing me. For more details and to book a class, go to the online classes page of my website.
